Harry Potter - the Boy Wizard. What an awesome theme for a kids birthday party. Children will have so much fun at a Harry Potter themed birthday party.

For starters, there is so much you can do with this theme. Lets look at the invitations. There are phrases from the movie. Or perhaps you could have an invitation delivered by Owl post. The best would be an invitation delivered on Hogwarts letterhead, stating that you have been selected for a special advanced course in Witchcraft and Wizardry at....the birthday boy or girls house.

On arrival at your Harry Potter themed party, guests should either be greeted by a giant at the gate, Hagrid style, or welcomed at the door by a senior witch or wizard, similar to Albus Dumbledore.

Harry Potter themed party decorations are easy to find in most party shops. But costumes and props are where the magic lies for this post.

Once all of the guests have arrived, they must be sorted. And then let the games begin.

For example, if you have 15 children at your party, sort them into the three houses other than Slytherin. Make sure you have 5 grown ups, who all wind up in Slytherin. You can do this by making your own sorting hat. You need a witches hat, and two walkie talkies. One walkie talkie is fastened into the top of the hat. As the hat is placed on the head of the child, (in a pre arranged order), a grown up in another room reads the sorting words in a suitably sorting hat voice. Hilarious!!

If you have a couple of iPhones, get the Harry Potter spells app. You can then hold a duelling tournament.  Then there are races, skill games, scavenger hunts and more. Here is a party games for kids page that may help.

Of course, with all of the focus on costumes and activities, the food can be pretty normal. You can have plenty of fun here to if you like. Hard boiled eggs could become dragon eggs or hobgoblin eyes. Cordial can become whatever you like it to.
