Gaga and Madonna are both incredible performers that the gay community identifies with. Madonna was the first to embrace the gay community with singles like Express Yourself and Like A Prayer. Gaga is now embracing the gay community with singles like Born This Way and Judas.
The difference?
Gaga is way more explicit and direct with her messages. Also Madonna’s lyrics could be interpreted in any way and can be inspirational for all, even the religious community. Gaga’s lyrics are inspirational to all communities to defy religion and become themselves. This is evident in both of her songs previously mentioned, but also in the video for Alejandro.
The big deal?
I don’t really see any. Gaga is crazy talented and is giving a voice that hasn’t been heard before. Madonna is definitely inspirational to Gaga, but Gaga is being taking her music to a different level. This is why every single she releases automatically goes to #1 on itunes. Gaga’s base is young and growing, Madonna’s is old but still strong. Their fan bases should not coincide and people should not look to Madonna to predict Gaga’s future.
Gaga is her own. There has never been anyone like her. Stop with the comparisons.
