So radiation… You lie alone on this table, stuff spins around you, and each appointment only takes about half an hour. Nothing evasive, but I can see how it could be seen as a kind of scary process. But this was one of my favourite things of the whole process, because everyday for 3 weeks, I got to a killer mix cd (aptly named “killer”) created by yours truly. I would like to take this time to thank Adele, Leighton Meester on the Country Strong Soundtrack, Lady Gaga, Britney Spears and a few other inspiring artists for being there when actual human beings could not. We chased that cancer right outta there bbys!!

Glee - Rolling In The Deep

I just watched Rachel and Jesse from Glee sing Rolling In The Deep by Adele. It was simply mesmerizing. Rachel began the song, but then Jesse interrupted her and finished the verse. They both came in at the chorus and sang harmonies. Plus the whole song was done a cappella with some random kids singing the background part. It was so good. This was the best video I could find of it.

Born This Way (Day 2)

Okay. So it’s been out a full day. It was released. Then it went #1 on iTunes in 3 hours (and broke that record by 2 hours). Then it went #1 on iTunes in 22 countries (and broke that record by 8 countries). Then it was played 1838 times total in one day on the radio (and broke that record - by 1200 spins). Then it was Gaga’s #3 top selling song EVER.

Love it or hate it, you can’t deny those stats.

I love it. At first I was underwhelmed, mainly because with all that hype, no matter what was produced, wouldn’t have been able to live up to any expectations I had. It delivers exactly what she said it would: an unapologetically gay song. Which I appreciate. It’s no Bad Romance. But then again, it’s no Just Dance, either. It’s in a completely different direction than the previous albums, which I can appreciate. However, with it being released at 6am, it was hard for me to jam when I was still half asleep. Like I said, I’ll be giving it the TRUE test tonight, with a drink in hand and a cute outfit on… we’ll see how it fares at the bar/club.

As a song itself, it’s groundbreaking. There, I said it. It goes there. It says things that aren’t said. Every top artist has a platform and a reach. Most use their reach to sing the formula (drinks, bars, girls, clubs, pop a glock, etc.). Gaga has used her reach to spread the idea of individuality SINCE BIRTH as an idea to the world. Think about that. Not many artists have the balls to say such a message that could flop so hard and be attacked so easily by religious/conservative groups. Imagine that one gay who is in the middle of Podunk, Nowhere, USA (or any country at this point) who thinks they’re alone, but hears this song, and is inspired by it. THAT’S POWERFUL. And that’s using your reach for good.

But a lot of gays aren’t seeing the bigger picture. They may feel like Gaga is capitalizing on them. Why would ANY mainstream artist (who is at the top of their game) choose to capitalize on 1/10 of the population? Typical homosexual mindset, the world is about us - which it is, but still… ;)

It’s gotten a lot of flack for sounding like other songs. I will redirect you to the special entitled, “Everything is a Remix” - so that you can realize just how much influence is going around in the music business (Hint: nobody is immune). Everybody says it sounds like Express Yourself… but if you loved Express Yourself, and Born This Way sounds like Express Yourself… but you don’t like Born This Way… uhhh. Besides, I listened to Express Yourself (for the first time, actually) to see if the rumors were true… didn’t hear it - at all. Ohh well.

It also has gotten flack for being worse than “Hold It Against Me” - which, of course I disagree with, because a year from now, HIAM will be gone (circa Gimme More) while BTW will still be spun (circa Just Dance). As a lot of you know, I don’t enjoy Britney. I enjoy her singles, but those have nothing to do with her. Point me toward a single Britney album that is AMAZING from start to finish. Exactly. She puts only a few singles into each low-produced album to last her until the next album. Now go listen to The Fame/The Fame Monster. Time will show a victor, and I’m confident in Gaga (per usual).

I don’t care what other people think of Gaga’s new song. Personally, the less people who enjoy her, the closer I get to the front of the concert. It just bugs me that people resent her or her new song because that’s the new thing to do. If you’re going to do that, I expect to NOT see you on the dance-floor when it comes on. I expect to see you NOT enjoy it when she plays it at the concert (that you WILL be attending). Don’t hate it online if you’re going to love it in real life.

Amid the controversy of FIFA’s choice to have a non-African as the official musical voice of the World Cup, Shakira shatters all national divisions and musical expectations and leads the world into its premier athletic event. The song “Waka Waka (This Time for Africa)” is a collection of African rhythms and sounds whose words are propelled atop drum beats for which African music is known worldwide. She sings “Tsaminamina,”inviting all citizens of the world and lovers of soccer to come, gather, and celebrate. She sings “Tsaminamina zangalewa,” asking the people of the world where they come from, for at this gathering of 32 nations to compete for the title of the best in the world’s most popular sport, we see and hear a human race divided among each other by nations but united in a love for soccer.

Even as the World Cup is now in full swing, the song weighs heavily in the aforementioned debate about this song’s place as the event’s official song. Critics against the decision will cite many reasons decrying it. Some will point to the trite nature of the lyrics. Amos Barshad of New York Magazine calls it “a perfectly innocuous bit of inspiration pop.” To this statement I respond that World Cup songs are typically inspirational and meant to pump up players and audiences alike. Others will say that the song is a poor excuse for a representation of African or world music. They describe it as sounding like any other Western pop song markedly embellished with African drum beats and passed off as something multicultural. To these people I ask, what about Ricky Martin’s “The Cup of Life” made it distinctively French or world music? (See what Eleanor Barkhorn has to say). Yes, included some French in the song, repeating the line “Ale, ale, ale” during the chorus. And yes, the song was recorded both in English and Spanish. But Shakira did the same and more! At least the whole chorus of “Waka Waka” is borrowed from the original 1986 version of the song “Zangalewa” by the Cameroonian group Golden Sounds. If there’s any complaint to be had over “Waka Waka” it’s that Shakira isn’t South African. But let’s be honest, when has the singer of the official World Cup song ever been from the host country? At least Shakira is a Colombian of Lebanese descent who sings in Spanish and English. Seems pretty multicultural to me…

It took me a while to like “Waka Waka.” I probably would have made some of the same arguments that critics continue to make. Still, we cannot deny the song’s undeniable power to unite the world through an inherently human medium—music. Shakira’s performance of the song at the Opening Ceremonies on June 10 was overshadowed by the vibrant display of colorful lights and the throng of people dancing and singing on stage with her. Ultimately, the song is a testament to what the World Cup is at its core—a gathering of the world’s people in celebration, song, and sport.

i hope this doesn’t offend your sensibilities, readers (all… two of you), but i must confess: i am a closet TWILIGHT freak.

let me be very clear: i don’t expect Stephenie Meyer to join the ranks of Austen and the Brontes. her writing is okay, her descriptions a bit lackluster, and her flair for the dramatic is excessive (Bella fainting basically every time Edward kisses her? give me a break).

the overall story, though? the impossible love she created with a few strokes of a pen (keyboard)? irresistible. how else can you explain her New York Times Bestseller status and over 100 million copies (of the Twilight Saga books) sold?

their love is just that: irresistible. i wouldn’t be surprised to see Bella and Edward’s romance stand the test of time, but still. i hate to love them. cocaine is to an addict as Bella is to Edward as the Twilight Saga is to me.

maybe it’s that hopeless romantic buried way down deep inside of me, but it is true. i can’t get enough of this modern twist on a classic-ish romantic novel. the Twilight Saga will find a permanent home on my bookshelf.

The Mosnter Ball - Madison Square Garden

The Monster Ball HBO Special recorded today(Feb21) and tomorrow (Feb22) at Madison Square Garden will premiere May 7th.

All stars in attendance: Elton John, Paul McCartney, Madonna, Billy Joel, Beyonce, Calvin Klein, Michelle Pfeiffer & Snooki(lol)!

It would have been great if Beyonce performed Telephone with her, Elton done Speechless with her, and just for kicks, Madonna singing Born This Way with GaGa just to set aside this whole Express Yourself controversy. :)

Due to technical difficulties with sound, Gaga had to stop the finale performance of performing Born This Way & sing it acapella! Can’t wait to see it.

It was reported that most of the celebs were interviewed for the HBO special!

Also there is another show tomorrow night at MSG and it is hoped that Beyonce will perform Telephone with Gaga! Cross your fingers! ‘:>
